When running a website, you could always use a bit more traffic. Traffic is the life source of any online business and there are many steps that you can take to improve your site’s traffic overall. Implement some of these tips and you’ll be sure to see an improvement over time.

Create a Compelling Headline

When you create a page for your site, you need to make the headline attractive. Try to include the primary keyword for your page into the headline in some capacity. This will help the search engines identify what your page is about. A good headline will also help in attracting clicks from potential visitors. The headline is the first thing that searchers will see when they see your listing in the search engines. If you have a good headline, it will increase the number of clicks and traffic for your site.

Make an Attractive Meta Description

When developing a page, you also need to spend some time creating an attractive meta description. The meta description is typically what search engines display in their listings right after the headline. After people look at your headline, they will see the page description and decide whether they want to read the content on your page. If the description is good and attention-getting, it can help your traffic as well.

Use Meta Keywords

After the meta description, you also have the opportunity to add a meta keywords tag. When filling out the information for this tag, you do need to include some keywords, but don’t go overboard. Include about three to five keywords in this section. Some people try to keyword stuff here and include 30 or 40 keywords. This doesn’t help and can actually hurt your chances of getting more traffic.

Use Keywords Correctly

Once you choose the keywords for your page, you need to include them in the content of the page. This does not mean that you should keyword stuff and try to fit the keywords into the page as much as possible. In most cases, you should mention the keyword two or three times in about 500 words of content. Any more than that and it starts to seem like you’re trying to game the search engines.

Include a Link

In addition to using the keyword in the main content of the page, you should also include it as link text in the page somewhere. For example, you may want to set up some navigation links at the bottom of your page that direct visitors to other pages on your site.

Use Images

Try to use images on your pages as much as possible. Images are considered content too and can be found by search engines. Use an Alt tag for each image so that the search engines can tell what the pictures are about. This will give your pages more chances to be found by the search engines.

Create Killer Content

One of the most important things to keep in mind is that you need to create killer content that people want to engage in. If you write good content that people like to read, they will stay on your pages longer. This will help your rankings in the search engines over time.
