Facebook Version Of Retweets

Labels:

This evening Facebook began testing what appears to be their version of Twitter’s retweet feature: “via”. On any article shared by your friend, you can click on “Share” and when you post the article to your profile, Facebook will now automatically say who the article came from. While the “via” content only currently works on shared articles, I’d assume that this feature would be extended to other stream stories if initial user testing proves successful. We’ve written extensively about the Twitterfication of Facebook, and this appears to be one more step in that process.

Google Phone:Nexus One

Labels:

wo years after announcing Android, Google answers the question "where's my GPhone?" by launching Nexus One. It's not the first Google-branded phone manufactured by HTC, but it's the first Android phone sold by Google.

Google set up an online store for Android phones and Nexus One is the first phone that's available for sale. Andy Rubin likes to call it a superphone because it's much more than a regular smartphone. Even if Nexus One is probably the best Android phone on the market, it's far from being revolutionary.

FeedBurner added Feed to Twitter

Labels: ,

If you've used TwitterFeed to post updates from a blog to your Twitter account, you'll like FeedBurner Socialize. It's a new FeedBurner feature that distributes the content from a feed on Twitter.

"To get started, go to the Socialize service on FeedBurner's Publicize tab and add the Twitter account to which you would like to post items from your feed. You can take the default settings and click [Save] to start socializing immediately, or use the options we offer to customize exactly which feed items are sent to Twitter and how exactly you would like them to look. The next time you post a new item to your feed it will be sent to Twitter," mentions FeedBurner's blog.

Google Wave and online communication

Labels:

I’ve been using Google Wave now for a number of weeks. When I first heard about Wave, I thought it sounded like it might be interesting. I then watched the incredibly long video about the tool and was overwhelmed by the power and potential of what seemed to be a pending revolution in online communication.

After requesting an invite and finally receiving access to the service I slowly began picking up connections to other friends and colleagues that also had access to Google Wave.

Use Twitter Search Effectively

Labels:

Search is integrated into Twitter's website now, when it wasn't before, so that's useful, but I'm still surprised how few people notice that little search box. Make sure when you select a Twitter client that you select on that supports Search Columns. This is how you find info on topics when you're not necessarily interested in particular people.
For example, if you don't want to follow me, but you want to listen to conversations on wordpress, make a search column with "wordpress" in it.
I recommend these Twitter clients that effectively support search:

Twitter Quick Overview

Labels:

When you say something on twitter, it has to be under 140 characters. That's a hard limit. What you say is called a tweet. It's a noun and a verb. "Oh, I saw this tweet..." and "He was tweeting all day."
Alternatively, some folks say "twittered" as in "I am twittering" and "I sent a twitter." I would say this is not typical.
Twitter is permanent (so far) so every tweet has a permalink. That means that every single tweet you put out there is now something that can be linked to, for example, this one: http://twitter.com/socialfans/status/6945283285. This immediately makes twitter different from IRC or other chat systems. That tweet is public and it's out there and it's web searchable.
I have always said, don't give bile a permalink. If you're a jerk on Twitter (and you care) it's in the record. Tweet positively.

Wordpress Mobile Theme Solution

Labels:

WordPress.com automatically uses a mobile theme when displaying blogs on a mobile device hosted there.
What about self-hosted WordPress? I went over to the WordPress.org theme directory, searched for mobile, and was shown just one theme: Carrington Mobile. The thing is, a mobile theme isn’t much good without code to select it when appropriate.
So the mobile hotspot for WordPress is plugins, not themes. Of the many plugins tagged with mobile, here are those relevant to mobile themes (with at least a thousand downloads).
